Callaghan

Some performances entertain.
Others change the temperature of a room.

Callaghan belongs firmly in the latter.

With the release of her eighth studio album, The Music You Gave To Me (out May 16), Callaghan arrives not as a passing visitor, but as an artist whose songs demand stillness, attention, and emotional presence. Her music doesn't rush. It draws you in — quietly at first — and then, before you realise it, you are completely inside it.

Born in Lincolnshire, Callaghan's musical life began at home, learning guitar and piano from her father John, long before stages, studios or tours were ever part of the picture. That early bond with music — personal, domestic, unforced — has never left her work. It is still there in her phrasing, her restraint, and the way she lets songs unfold rather than announce themselves.

In 2010, she moved to the United States, recording her debut album with Grammy-nominated songwriter Shawn Mullins, and spending the next decade touring extensively across America. Those years on the road shaped her reputation as a live performer — an artist who could hold rooms of wildly different sizes with nothing more than voice, piano or guitar, and an unshakeable emotional honesty.

She went on to record in Nashville with hit writer-producer Dennis Matkosky (Keith Urban, LeAnn Rimes), and later in Los Angeles with Grammy-winning producers Starr Parodi and Jeff Fair, whose work spans Mission: Impossible and James Bond. Yet despite the scale of those collaborations, Callaghan's greatest strength has always revealed itself most clearly on stage, in intimate rooms where every word lands.

Her live performances have earned extraordinary praise — not for spectacle, but for impact.

"A wonderful artist, beautiful, warm and hugely talented. The reaction to her music on my shows has been fantastic."
Bob Harris, BBC Radio 2
"Callaghan is amazing… she has a voice, she sings, she writes and she plays — and there is no more that needs to be said."
Jeremy Vine, BBC Radio 2
"Breathtaking… absolutely incredible… every hair on my body is standing up."
Gaby Roslin, BBC London

Venues consistently speak of audiences leaning forward, of rooms held in silence, of songs that lift and break hearts in equal measure.

"A brilliant singer-songwriter with a fabulous voice and engaging personality. Her songs can be both emotional and uplifting — she has been a real hit with our audiences."
Rob Moore, Old Parcels Office, Scarborough
"A charismatic performer with a distinctive and easily recognised voice. Callaghan's concerts are a joy — offering an uplifting and emotional experience with a mix of upbeat and poignant songs."
Brian Chudley, Town Hall Live, Kirton in Lindsey
"A rare kind of artist — her voice draws you in with warmth and honesty, while her songwriting paints stories that stay in your head long after the last note fades."
Dave Stainthorpe, Thorner Victory Hall Series

In 2023, Callaghan's life and music were reshaped by the loss of her father to lung cancer. During his short but brutal illness, she began writing a song for him — The Music You Gave To Me — a final thank you to the man who had given her music in the first place.

"It was all the things I couldn't say to him," she has said. "But I knew they needed to be said somehow."

Returning to music after his passing was not easy. Slowly, carefully, she found her way back to the piano. The songs that emerged form an album of eight pieces — fragile, fearless, and profoundly human. It is her most personal work to date, and when performed live, its power is magnified.

To accompany the album, Callaghan created Callaghan's Music Radio Club, inviting listeners into the stories behind the songs, the music that inspired them, and a shared space for reflection and connection. Like her concerts, it is built on intimacy rather than distance.

After stepping back from touring to raise her two young daughters, Callaghan has returned to the stage with renewed focus, playing UK shows that have sold out on the strength of word-of-mouth alone.

And this is exactly why she belongs at Barnoldswick Music & Arts Centre.

In a space where songs are allowed to breathe, where silence is respected, and where audiences come ready to listen, Callaghan's music becomes something almost ritualistic. Not a performance to be watched — but an experience to be shared.

This is one of those nights.
The kind people talk about afterwards.
The kind that stays with you.

An enchanted room.
An extraordinary voice.
A rare and unforgettable evening.
