Lead Vocalist & Guitarist with From The Jam
This special acoustic afternoon is a celebration of Mod culture, British attitude and working-class soul, offering a rare, personal insight into one of the most important lineages in UK music history — from sharp suits and righteous anger to songs that still define generations.
Russell Hastings rose to prominence as the frontman of From The Jam, formed from the surviving members of The Jam following their split in 1982. In 2005, Hastings joined forces with the late Rick Buckler to form The Gift, making their debut at The Brook in Southampton. Just eighteen months later, original Jam bassist Bruce Foxton joined the project — and From The Jam was born.
Hastings occupies a unique and historic place in The Jam story. He remains the only frontman ever to work in the same band with both Rick Buckler and Bruce Foxton since Paul Weller walked away from The Jam in 1982. For over twenty years, Hastings has earned deep respect from Jam fans worldwide — not just for his vocal power and musicianship, but for his absolute understanding of Mod culture, its attitude, politics and passion. He has taken that spirit around the globe, playing to packed houses of devoted followers.
As a songwriter, Hastings was a key creative force during the Foxton/Hastings era, contributing material across the albums Back In The Room, Smash The Clock and The Butterfly Effect. All three releases charted in the Official UK Album Charts and were critically acclaimed, praised for retaining the urgency, bite and social conscience of classic Jam while pushing the sound forward with fresh energy.
Beyond From The Jam, Hastings' career reads like a Mod fan's dream come true. A lifelong admirer of soul, R&B and pub rock, Russell had the honour of recording alongside heroes such as Steve Cropper and Wilko Johnson — both now sadly passed. To stand shoulder to shoulder with these legends was, by Hastings' own admission, a once-in-a-lifetime moment, fulfilling the dreams of a kid who grew up worshipping the records that shaped British Mod culture. He has also recorded with Paul Weller, completing a remarkable circle of influence and respect.
This intimate acoustic show is a rock 'n' roll rollercoaster, spanning the full arc of The Jam and From The Jam's shared legacy. Hastings will be joined on stage by fellow From The Jam bandmate Gary Simons, revisiting material from the explosive 1977 debut In The City right through to the final Foxton/Hastings album The Butterfly Effect.
Alongside stripped-back performances of iconic songs, the evening will feature stories from the road, memories of studio sessions with Paul Weller, the formation of The Gift with Rick Buckler, and the moment Bruce Foxton completed the final piece of the puzzle.
The public will get what the public wants — a heartfelt, honest and stylish celebration of Mod culture, British music and one of its most enduring legacies, told by a man who lived it, believed in it, and carried the flame forward.
