This course is NOT FREE. This Students who register for pre-registration will be sent invoices once the student minimum has been met.
The course begins with an introduction to compassion fatigue, featuring an interactive roundtable discussion where students will engage with the instructor and peers. During this exercise, students will share their experiences and familiarity with compassion fatigue, while collaboratively establishing class goals to ensure focused and meaningful group discussions throughout the day.
Students will then explore the core concepts of crisis intervention and preparedness for handling critical incidents in animal care. This includes an overview of definitions, relevant statistics, and the unique types of trauma experienced by animal control workers. The instructor will guide the class through various case examples, shedding light on the challenges of the profession.
A critical component of the course will address mental health topics, including depression and suicide rates among animal control workers. Emphasis will be placed on the psychological well-being of officers and their families, offering practical health and wellness resources to support long-term resilience.
A significant portion of the class is dedicated to understanding the far-reaching effects of trauma, including its impact on the individual and their family. Students will receive actionable strategies and tools to not only survive the pressures of the profession but also to thrive in their personal and professional lives.
