Mark Radcliffe and David Boardman

Broadcaster, writer and musician Mark Radcliffe met David Boardman a few years ago when he moved to Knutsford and they found each other in the Builder's Arms. David is a seasoned singer/songwriter, guitar teacher and fine artist. The pair began to co-write songs for David's band Fine Lines and the duo idea came out of that. Inspired by the elegant simplicity of two guitars, two vocals the initial inspiration was The Everly Brothers and Simon and Garfunkel but more contemporary acts like The Milk Carton Kids have also been a major influence. They also share a love of Western Swing and old school roots country music in particular the songs of Hank Williams. Those inspirations have fed into their original songs as well as having informed their choice of cover versions.

Unofficially known as The Long Ridge Riders, there's something of a country-ish campfire tinge to the atmosphere they create. Theirs is a duo that works perfectly: they both sing, they both write, David plays most of the difficult bits and Mark does most of the talking!

About

Mark and David are singing, songwriting, strumming, and swigging buddies from the badlands of the Cheshire Plain.

Radcliffe has been on BBC national radio since the early nineties and currently hosts the Radio 2 Folk Show and weekend breakfast on 6Music. He is also the author of five bestselling books, the latest being 'Crossroads – In Search Of The Moments That Changed Music'. Previously a member of folk-rock bands The Family Mahone and Galleon Blast, he is currently one half of electronic duo UNE and drummer and lyricist for Americana band Fine Lines whose lead singer and guitarist is…..

David Boardman. A consummate guitarist and guitar teacher, David cut his teeth on the rock circuit with Darktown Jubilee touring not only the UK but also North America and Canada. A gifted visual artist, Boardman met Radcliffe in their hometown of Knutsford where their writing partnership soon began to flourish.

Their act is one of classic simplicity: two voices, two guitars, some great original songs, the odd carefully chosen cover and the occasional rambling anecdote. Their debut album 'First Light' is now followed up by their sophomore release 'Hearsay and Heresy' on which they have somehow managed to hit the sweet spot between David wanting to do dozens of takes before carefully selecting the best bits and Mark thinking it was alright the first time!
