SPECIAL SUNDAY MATINEE PERFORMANCE
As part of her very special weekend residency at Barnoldswick Music & Arts Centre, Julia Fordham will present an exclusive and deeply personal Sunday Matinee performance unlike any other show she has done before.
This unique concert will see Julia step back into the songs, artists and musical moments that helped shape her remarkable career and artistic journey. Combining intimate acoustic performances with stories, memories and reflections from a lifetime in music, the afternoon promises to be both beautifully nostalgic and wonderfully revealing.
"A one off exclusive concert performing songs by Joni Mitchell, Judy Collins, John Martyn and other artists that helped shape her career."
Long before the platinum albums, international tours and sold out theatres, Julia Fordham was a teenage songwriter performing in folk clubs along England's south coast, absorbing the music and poetry of the great singer-songwriters who transformed emotion into art. The confessional beauty of Joni Mitchell, the haunting elegance of Judy Collins, the jazz-infused soulfulness of John Martyn and the rich storytelling traditions of folk, jazz and sophisticated pop would all become part of Julia's musical DNA.
Those influences would later blossom into a career that saw Julia become one of Britain's most distinctive and internationally celebrated singer-songwriters. From the worldwide success of Happy Ever After, Porcelain, Girlfriend and (Love Moves In) Mysterious Ways, through collaborations with legendary producer Larry Klein and artists including Michael McDonald and India Arie, Julia has built a catalogue admired for its sophistication, emotional honesty and timeless quality.
Her beautifully rich contralto voice — described by The New York Times as "one of the most strikingly beautiful voices to be heard in pop" — has carried her from London's Royal Albert Hall to sold out tours across America, Japan and Europe. More recently, a whole new generation rediscovered Julia through the hugely successful Woman to Woman tours alongside Judie Tzuke and Beverley Craven.
Yet this special Sunday matinee at BMAAC promises something even rarer.
Not simply a concert…but a glimpse into the records, songs and artists that shaped the heart and soul behind Julia Fordham herself.
